Chinese New Year : scenes from Chinatown

Chinese New Year is upon us again and I ventured into Chinatown last week to buy some Feng Shui amulets and visit the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.  There are lots of preparations going on for the New Lunar year.

Most households will either have an Orange Tree outside their doors, or place loose oranges around the home as the word orange in Chinese sounds similar to ‘wealth’ and it is thought that this symbol will bring prosperity to the occupants.

The bright orange colour also resembles ‘gold’ thus another auspicious meaning!  See the lovely gold coins adorning the streets below..

Wishing all my readers a Happy Lunar New Year and may good fortune come your way in the Year of the Horse.
