woolly cactus

This cactus looks like a woolly caterpillar to me!  It normally grows in Bolivia but this one is sitting in Gardens by the Bay here in Singapore.  It grows wool-like structures around it’s flowers, to protect the bats that visit it to pollinate, from being spiked by the spines.

I saw this cactus when I visited the Rose Exhibition last month.
